Where are we?

If you are coming from the north or west, aim for Angers. If you are coming from the north east or the east, aim for Saumur. If you are coming from the south, aim for Thuars. In every case, it's the last part of the journey that's the hardest.

From Angers or Saumurs

In both cases, follow the signs to Doue la Fontaine, but when you get near Doue, stay on the main road round it. (If you are coming from Saumur, you effectively have to filter off to the right to avoid going into the centre of the town.)

Look out for the roundabout with a Giraffe on it. (If you were to turn towards Doue, it would take you to the Zoo.) At this roundabout, follow the minor road signposted Nueil sur Layon

After a few kilometers you will hit a T-junction. (Be careful: you go down a hill and round a bend and then come out on the junction fairly fast.) It's almost a cross roads: go straight across (slightly left then right).

Follow this until you come to Nueil. Stay on the road until you come to a junction in the outskirts of the town. Turn left towards the town centre. Pass the square (and parking area) on your right and then turn right (signposted to Passavant sur Layon). Follow this out of Nueil and, two kilometres later, you will enter Passavant.

You will hit another T-junction. Your road is a narrow road between high buildings. Come out carefully and turn right. Follow this until you can see the castle ahead of you and turn left into a tarmac car park. You will see the gîte straight in front of you.

From the South (via Thoars)

(This is not a journey we do very often, so the instructions are a little more uncertain.)

Come out of Thuoars on the road towards Puy Notre Dame. At Bagneux cut across country to Nueil sur Layon. Keep an eye out for the town square (which functions as car park) and follow the road signposted to Passavant sur Layon.

Once you reach Passavant you will hit a T-junction. Your road is a narrow road between high buildings. Come out carefully and turn right. Follow this until you can see the castle ahead of you and turn left into a tarmac car park. You will see the gîte straight in front of you.
